About the role

We are building Syria’s most ambitious e-commerce marketplace a platform designed to connect millions of buyers with thousands of sellers through a fast, reliable, and seamless digital experience. As we move from foundation to scale, we need a visionary and execution-focused Chief Technology Officer to lead every dimension of our technology.

The CTO will own the full technology stack from platform architecture and engineering culture to product infrastructure, data systems, and cybersecurity. You will work hand-in-hand with the CEO and COO to ensure technology is a competitive advantage, not a bottleneck. This is a founding executive role with equity participation and the opportunity to shape a category-defining platform from the ground up.

Key responsibilities

Define and execute the company’s overall technology vision, roadmap, and architecture strategy
Build, lead, and grow a high-performing engineering team across frontend, backend, mobile, DevOps, QA, and data
Architect a scalable, resilient, and secure e-commerce platform capable of handling high transaction volumes and rapid growth
Oversee the full product technology lifecycle from ideation and development through deployment, monitoring, and iteration
Drive the adoption of best engineering practices: agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and automated testing
Lead cloud infrastructure strategy selection, optimization, and cost management across AWS, GCP, or Azure
Own platform security, data privacy compliance, and incident response planning
Build and maintain a robust data infrastructure to power analytics, personalization, and business intelligence
Evaluate and integrate third-party APIs and technology vendors — payment gateways, logistics APIs, CRM, and ERP systems
Collaborate with Product, Operations, and Marketing teams to translate business needs into technical solutions
Manage technology budgets, vendor contracts, and infrastructure costs efficiently
Represent technology strategy to the Board, investors, and key partners
Stay ahead of emerging technologies and apply relevant innovations to maintain competitive advantage

Requirements

12+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 4 years in a technology leadership role (CTO, VP Engineering, or Head of Engineering)
Proven track record of architecting and scaling high-traffic digital platforms — e-commerce, marketplace, or fintech experience strongly preferred
Deep hands-on expertise in at least one major backend language and cloud infrastructure
Strong experience building and managing cross-functional engineering teams of 10+ people
Solid understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and API design
Experience with agile/scrum methodologies and engineering management frameworks
Proven ability to balance technical debt, innovation, and business delivery under pressure
Strong communication skills able to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
Fluent in English; Arabic is a strong advantage
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

Prior experience at a regional e-commerce or marketplace platform (Noon, Amazon, Souq, Namshi, or similar)

Knowledge of CDN optimization and performance engineering for low-bandwidth markets
Open source contributions or a strong technical community presence
